Office Of The Clerk, House Of Representatives, SUG, UNN.

On Wednesday the 15th February, 2017, a meeting of some officers of the Union, the DVC(Academics) and Director of the quality Assurance Directorate of the University, Prof. Johnson Urama was held at the NUGA secretariat. It was a meeting geared towards keeping the Union and the students in the loop of trending policies of the administration.

The meeting was about a quality assurance policy tagged, "Students Evaluation Programme". This is in the bid of our VC's pursuit to place our Alma mater in it place in Africa and indeed the world. This policy is coming in the wake of recent issues plaguing the nation's as students with certificates that has no content are being churned out of our higher institutions by the day, the DVC said.

The policy is geared towards making provisions for our students to be able to rate their lecturers at the end of each session, prior to examinations and in essence, have a role to play the overall educational process.

The forms will be made available online which our students would fill, submit, and the results collated at a central server in servicom

These results will be used to keep lecturers who are not getting the job right in check with the sanctions like delayed promotions, worst scenario, dismissal for recalcitrant lecturers.

Issues like protection of the identity of our students were raised to avoid victimization of any sort. Other issues were also raised. They are as follows:

1. Cases of multiple entry
2. If the programme is to be made optional or compulsory
3. Making provisions for a kind of teachers training seminar considering the fact that some of our lecturers are in the profession because of their academic performance among other issues.

These issues were addressed as follows:
The identity of our students will be protected such that the forms will not be linked to our profiles, neither will be forms bear the name of the students.
Moreso, the forms will be in respect of specific courses and will be automatic so that as soon as a students is through with a form for a particular course and lecturer,  such student will not have access to same form.
Furthermore, in other to allay the fears of students who are willing to embrace this laudable programme, the forms will be open to all. Access to semester results online may be granted only after the programme is undertaken. Though, this is still being deliberated.
In view to making sure all lecturers are on the same page in the academic calling, the DVC(Academics) made it clear that teachers training programmes have been organized for the staffs and will continually be organized.

In closing, the DVC appealed that our students should be very objective as objectivity will determine the success of this programme.
